Heir Story.
Our story traces its roots back to the Tignon Law of 1786, a legislation aimed at diminishing the allure of free and enslaved Soulaan women by requiring them to conceal their magnificent hair with tignon cloths. This law initiated an on-going exclusion of Afro-textured hair from the beauty standard and hair care products. In response to historical disparities in hair care, Soulaan women became adept scientists and natural chemists, innovating products tailored for their unique hair needs despite the scarcity of empirical research on Afro-textured hair. Drawing upon tradition, expertise, and instinct, these women successfully pioneered their own haircare solutions, transforming domestic kitchens into entrepreneurial hubs. Our mission is to nourish our roots and foster new growth through educational initiatives that harmoniously blend tradition with the principles of STEAM.
