What is The Cosmetic Chemistry STEAM Workshop
or HeirUNI Week?

The Cosmetic Chemistry STEAM Workshop, referred to as "HeirUNI Week," is a five-day workshop focused on the advancement of STEAM education and the science of textured hair. This initiative seeks to develop innovative approaches for engaging with STEAM disciplines through the perspective of cosmetic chemistry, while also offering guidance for college and career pathways.

Why Is This Workshop
Significant?

In 2022, about 2.1 million young people in the U.S. between the ages of 16 and 24 left school, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). This number shows a serious problem; children from low-income families often face more challenges in school and are more likely to drop out. Our event is designed to help these young people by providing important resources. We want to help them discover new interests, build important skills, and encourage them to finish high school with a plan for college or a trade career. By supporting them in this way, we hope to create more chances for them to succeed in school and in their future careers.

Who Is This Workshop For?

The Cosmetic Chemistry Workshop, commonly referred to as HeirUNI Week, is tailored for students in grades 9 through 12, or those aged 14 to 18. This program is ideally suited for individuals with an interest in science, chemistry, or the formulation of cosmetics. Our participants are emerging leaders, innovative thinkers, and aspiring entrepreneurs poised to effect meaningful change. The workshop is specifically designed to benefit students from underresourced communities who have limited access to career opportunities within the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields.
